国連デー(United Nations Day)

1945年10月24日に、第2次大戦後の平和と安全の維持、各国間の友好関係の促進を目的にソ連の国際連合憲章への批准により、発効に必要な20か国の批准が得られたため、国連憲章が発効し、国際連合が発足したことを記念して、1948年に設けられた国際連合(United Nations)の記念日。

国際連合の設立趣旨は、
(1)国際的な共通の目的の達成、すなわち、平和と安全の維持(中心的な目的)と人権の保護、
(2)そのための諸国の行動を調整することであった。

国際連合は1971年の総会(United Nations General Assembly)で、「国連デー(United Nations Day)」を加盟国が祝祭日にするよう勧めた。
国連週間(United Nations Week)は10月20日から26日で、国連デーはその一部として組み込まれた。
