Liz McColgan won the World Athletics Championship 10,000 metres in Japan.

The Dundee-born distance runner's career included nine major athletics tournament medals, notably a gold for the 10,000 at the 1986 Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh and silver at the 1988 Olympics in Seoul. As well as track events, she was also a successful marathon runner, winning gold medals in the London, New York and Tokyo.
