Sir Jackie Stewart, the Formula One World Champion in 1969, 1971 and 1973, was born.

As the son of a garage owner and with an elder brother who was also a racing driver, it seemed natural that Stewart would get involved in motor racing. However the first sport Stewart got seriously involved in was clay-pigeon shooting.
